Studio 588 is maybe the world’s most unusual film studio and definitely its largest producer of video quicksand scenes. 

Starting in the summer of 2007, Studio 588 has offered opportunities for paid acting assignments. These assignments pay well. Although the actual daily amount earned depends on multiple variables, of which one is the weather, a physically fit performer on a good day will earn from $300 to $600 dollars. Optionally, co-production arrangements can be made with the potential for even more.

Part of the fee that may be earned by a performer is from bonuses for topless or nude scenes. However, a preference to avoid such scenes is not (not in any way) an impediment to work. Even when the performer might prefer such scenes, only 20 to 40 percent are likely to be topless and fully nude scenes are likely to be very rare.
Typical compensation is $80.00 per session if non-topless. Add a bonus of $50.00 per session involving topless (not guaranteed to be available for every session).
Studio 588 does not produce, or allow to be produced, material definable legally as pornography. However, all performers must be at least 20 years of age, or 21 if performing topless.
Potential performers and models need not have experience, but are expected to be totally reliable. Please see the section on “Physical Requirements” for further information.
Sorry guys, but there are essentially no opportunities for male performers. Although a few male performers do appear in a few episodes that have been produced at Studio 588 or by producers who use the Studio, those individuals are generally crew members or close friends with the performers.
Other than being female, therefore, the physical attributes needed for work as a performer in videos typically produced are highly varied. Although some producers use only, or predominantly, models of outstanding physical appearance, others are more interested in the ability to act. Some producers expect or desire performers to be willing to perform topless or nude, but others NEVER ask for this. The following may give some idea of the general requirements.
Ideal Height: 4’6″ to 6’6″
Ideal Hair: Not bald, any color
Race/Ethnicity: Irrelevant
Ideal Age: 21 to 50 or so
Ideal Body Type: Not Significantly Overweight
Teeth: Yes
Tatoos or Piercings: These may limit the kinds of scenes that can be done to the extent that appearance is incompatible with the plot.
Aside from the preferences of the producers and directors, however, anyone contemplating work of this kind must be alerted that performing a quicksand scene is hard physical work. One must have reasonably good physical fitness, both in terms of cardiovascular fitness and muscle strength. Perhaps the most critical physical requirement is to not be significantly overweight. The density (specific gravity) of all of the materials used to make mud or simulated quicksand is such that buoyancy is significantly enhanced above that encountered in water. An individual who is overweight will find it totally impossible to “sink” far enough to make a credible scene.
The first step in producing a quicksand scene is the development of some sort of plan for what is to happen. This might be as simple as a brief scenario and list of wardrobe and/or props, or it might be a more detailed script. Some producers prefer the simple scenario and other the script. More complex ideas have a greater need for a script, but this also introduces the need for performers to have time to study their script and memorize lines. The script is also an interesting format for story-telling, aside from issues of getting it produced.
Hannah goes to an oral surgeon for a dental problem and declines a medicine that is supposed to prevent strange dreams while under anesthesia.

Nyssa Nevers, expert in escape from rope bondage, decides to practice her skills with the added complication of a time limit imposed by being in quicksand. Unfortunately for her she has failed to account for swelling of the rope when it gets wet.

Samantha is a naughty, and completely crazy, nurse mixing up a batch of extract of frog lips. Then she accidentally injects herself with some of this very hallucinogenic substance. In seconds she starts acting like a , well,…. like a frog.
A slightly twisted (ok very twisted) version of the familiar tale of Snow White. This one has an evil queen, an apple (ok its a tomato), and the dialogue mentions the familiar small people. The rest of it, well,…. you’ll see.

The manager of Studio 588 has written quite a number of scripts for quicksand scenes, along with short stories, mock advertisements, and a full-length movie. A few of these have actually been produced at Studio 588. Although no promises can be made regarding getting anything produced, all interested writers in the quicksand-scene genre are invited to try writing in the script format, and the Studio manager will be happy to provide suggestions or criticism if asked.
A discussion forum called “Quicksandland.com” is now open and dedicated to the discussion of the technical and creative aspects of the quicksand world. To help keep out the spammers, the forum requires a registration but there is no cost. You must be, and behave, 18 years of age to participate. There are subforums for video, photomanips, writing, artwork, and other creative endeavors.
JungleLand is now open. Registration is separate from that for quicksandland, but it is also free. There are two chat rooms and a trail network leading to a growing list of interesting and jungly places. You can even order a drink and a meal at the Jungle Land Bar and grill. Please expect some bugs at first, this is still under construction.
