Now, where can I get plant hormones… I’ve turned up the natural processes – co2/light/minerals – up all the way and have reached a choke-point. I need to find a research botanist and see what they use when they clone trimmings. I think a steady diet of plant-roids would do interesting things to the flora on my little desktop aquarium.

but there’s a plateau, where the cells cannot turn photons into sugars any faster – so unwanted dudes (aka algae) show up and help themselves to the free resources. At which point you end up with something like this:
