After 1 year of development, the original “PainStation” was completed in
2001 by Volker Morawe and Tilman Reiff while studying at the Academy of
Media Arts Cologne.
Press coverage and shows in clubs and on LAN-Parties etc. followed and the demand for a durable version of the machine rose.
Now, more than 2 1/2 years later, the successor is finally nearing
The Painstation consists of a specially made case which gives two
players the opportunity of playing a specially adapted and expanded
variant of the classic video game, Pong, against each other.
electronic controls are connected by digital transducers to several
components providing sensory feedback to players. Possible feedback effects are heat impulses, an electric shock and an integrated miniature wire whip.
