Friend went completely 100% against my advice to NOT buy an Airport
Extreme, had this girl he knew during his stint at Best Buy set it up
for him, including adding a 2TB drive into the mix.

At some point, several months later, apparently the Time Machine backup
configuration hadn’t actually been done correctly and it had never
backed up a damn thing. So I came along, and after probably an hour of
hassling with it got both his laptop and his moms’ Mac Mini to
successfully perform regular Time Machine backups. At this point I was convinced that he had bought the wrong router. Several times the Airport Configuration Utility would just flat out FAIL to load the configuration file, and just sit there like a stupid brick of shit.

Now he texts me a photo of an error message which reads:

Time Machine could not complete this backup.
The backup disk image “/volume/TimeMachineBackups~2/Mikes’ Mom’s Mac Mini.sparsebundle” is already in use.

I text him back with:

“How many times did I tell you not to buy that fucking POS router?”

He says:

“u suck at pcs…” then “I guess I’ll have to find someone else to fix this for me that sucks”

At this point I say good fucking riddance, I guess what I’m looking for
here is a general idea of how frequently Time Machine backups are
actually successful, and whether or not I should be questioning my
abilities. Do I “suck at pcs” ?

Fact is, this asshole completely ignored my strong suggestions to NOT
buy this router, to buy a different NAS solution because he is a
brainwashed Apple fanboy who kisses the ground Steve Jobs used to walk

  1. the airport extreme is widely considered one of the best consumer wireless routers out there.. not as hackable as some, but very reliable, dual band, and fast out of the box.. no idea what got screwed up in your time machine config tho as i’ve never had a problem in the few setups i’ve done..

also helpful is telling your ungrateful friends to go fuck themselves.. that’s what i do 🙂
